Today I realized just how much nursing has desensitized me because I was looking forward to being shaken and revolted to my core by reading these stories. Instead, I just chuckled and shook my head as I was reminded of shifts past. But I hope these manage to offend and sicken you :) And if you have stories that can outgross these, tell me!

Never saw this personally, but I heard a story about a guy who developed a case of fournier's from shaving his 'nads, and had to have a neo-scrotum surgically reconstructed, obviously after extensive debridement.
sitting here LAUGHING!!! at this article... weird? why yes
Man, I read half of this article, made a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, and then kept reading. All in a day's work.
I laughed.
I don't have any pictures, but I did have a patient who had some type of squamous cell cancer that literally ate a hole in his neck.
Did I mention he was still very much alive and breathing?
You could see the windpipe moving. It was awesome.
read it while eating breakfast... nothing to gross me out there.
A wound-care nurse was with a nursing student and they were working on a patient's abdominal wound that was grossly dehisced.
The floor nurse came in to give the patient his pills. One of the pills fell into the wide-open abdominal wound. The floor nurse picked it out and proceeded to give it to the patient.
I guess this is proof that I just work for a nursing magazine. I was GROSSED out!!! But also laughed my butt off.
Those weren't bad - there's a thread on Allnurses.com that has thousands of gross stories. Some of them made me gag. I can't eat while reading them, and generally I have a cast-iron stomach.
I love them.
I'm not in the medical profession, and I gotta say, I was kind of disappointed in the stories. I was anticipating disgust and maybe a couple nightmares, and all I could think was "That's it?" I actually thought they were pretty hilarious (...sorry?)!
I do have a couple of (not serious) health issues, so I'm not naive to health mishaps, but still! You'd think they could have picked some really icky stuff. :(
Maybe I should have gone into medicine - nothing in there that I couldn't have read while eating.
