Mother's Day - South Asian Edition

1999
Me: Happy mother’s day! *hands over a bunch of flowers*
Mom: Thank you dear. They are lovely. But you know what would make me happier? You learning to cook something decent so I don’t have to slave over the bloody stove all day long!
Me: Keep dreaming!
Mom: *SMACK*

2010
Me: Happy mother’s day! *hands over a bunch of flowers and snacks*
Mom: Thank you dear. This is lovely. But you know what would me happier? You settling down with a nice man and giving me some grandbabies so I have something to live for in my old age!
Me: I don’t have to settle down with a nice boy to give you grandbabies Ma!
Mom: *SMACK*

Happy mother’s day to everyone :)

And to your Mom, too.

Children are not the ultimate goal. Maybe your Mom needs a hobby.

I concur. (hahaha-always wanted to use that!)
I have never had children and at age 55, I would say I am happier than most of my colleagues.... ;)

Maha...

This post cracked me up. A mother's love is so secure that they can get away with such "smacks". I hope it was a good day for you both, nonetheless..

Lol! I'm South Asian too, and I know exactly what you're talking about! At least I live far from my parents, so I don't get the *smack* you describe. Instead I get the "why are you wasting time with cats? You should have babies".
They don't seem to realize that kids aren't for everyone.

Ah, the old "you need kids crap". Well, I have one and I get the "can't just have one" crap now.

Hello, have you looked at the stats for older mothers lately? I don't like my odds of complications, thank you!

That is very funny --- my own mom with much the same --- either about the food or the grandchildren.

And I bet she's a fabulous cook!

Next Mother's Day, give her a pair of nice padded gloves so that when she smacks you it won't hurt!
